RESILIENT TOGETHER

What does it mean to be resilient in a time like this? What does it look like to face adversity and unknowns with the same confidence and undefeatable spirit of a voyageur setting off into uncharted waters? We turn to what we know: to serve, to strive and not to yield. We ground ourselves not in the singular ‘me,’ but in the plural ‘we.’ We remind ourselves there is far more in us than we know, and together, much can be accomplished—challenges can be overcome.

Today, we draw upon our Outward Bound training to impact how we face each new day—knowing, we’re resilient together. Digging deeper into teamwork, connection, service to others, and above all, compassion. Lessons wrapped into everyday moments, discovered in the people and places that surround us:

… in a call from a loved-one, a note left on a doorstep or a letter written home—touch points that offer hope, share fears and remind us, we’re not alone and you are needed.

… heard in the chirping of birds, who despite the chaos of the world, wake up and sing their song at the start of a new day.

… seen in your neighbors’ walks around the block, as they find a clear space to think, breathe and create.

… tasted over a shared meal with your household, who offer joy amidst changing circumstances.

Resilience is felt in everyday moments. Moments that lift our community up one by one. So even though we’re not currently ‘Outward Bound,’ we invite you to join us on an expedition of resilience as we unite together to spark life through action, instill endurance, offer joy and above all, lend compassion to yourself and your communities.

Join us by making a gift to the 2020  COVID-19 Recovery Fund – our nationwide collaborative fundraising campaign to raise critical operating support to ensure Outward Bound’s future in the United States. With funding in place, OBUSA and our 11 regional Outward Bound Schools, can continue to assess, manage and sustain the effort to overcome the impact of the unfolding  pandemic and prepare for the revival of our educational programs when it is safe to do so.
