From the High Sierra near Yosemite and the high desert in Joshua Tree to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Outward Bound California offers a wide range of breathtaking course areas where students face challenge and adventure and discover new found strengths and resiliency.

Technical alpine backpacking, mountaineering and rock climbing courses are offered out of the Midpines Base Camp, which serves as the gateway to the awe-inspiring Sierra Nevada Mountains. Our Joshua Tree programs offer world-class rock climbing and desert backpacking in a truly unique ecosystem. Outward Bound California also serves students year-round in the San Francisco Bay Area, with both backcountry and school-based programs from our Bay Area Center.

Multi-week courses run throughout the summer and early fall and are led by a team of highly motivated and skilled field instructors committed to helping people of every age discover, develop and achieve their full potential.
