Outward Bound backpacking courses take you to remote, beautiful destinations both domestic and international. Carrying everything you need on your back, you’ll travel into wilderness areas away from crowds and civilization, allowing space to focus on your present task at hand and the people surrounding you. With a daily agenda focused on getting from point A to point B, crew members work together to assess various terrain, potential obstacles and changing landscapes to create navigation plans based off of topographical readings and intuition. Together, you’ll learn to trust one another and yourself as you confidently move forward in the direction of travel collectively defined as best. With each mile covered, you’ll learn and grow in areas of risk management, outdoor leadership, navigation, positive risk taking and teamwork—learning you are capable of more than you think and brave enough to walk forward in your decisions.
Backpacking expeditions take place across American wilderness and international backcountry. Including the Northern Appalachian Trail in Maine, the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, the breathtaking Rocky Mountains of Colorado, desert canyons in Big Bend, Texas and the sun-drenched peaks of Patagonia. Each location presenting its own challenges, lessons and accomplishments to be discovered by each unique crew of students.
