Pathfinder courses provide the opportunity for young adults, ages 18 to 25, to chart a path, acquire the motivation to begin their journey, the resiliency to recover from setbacks and the skills needed to achieve their goals. Students get to know themselves better, clarify their values, overcome difficulties and boost their confidence. The skills they learn while out in the wilderness transfer directly to life at home and beyond.

A recent alum of a 30-day Pathfinder course shared the letter she wrote to her mom on the last day of her course. This is the sort of reflection we hope to see in all of our students.

Dear Mom,
Just thought I’d drop you a letter expressing how thankful I am of you. Thank you so much for pushing me to take and complete this course. I have never felt so free from obligations and responsibilities ever. I have reflected on all of my past situations and was uplifted by the lightness I feel. I couldn’t have done this without you. I know we talked on the phone while on course when I shouldn’t have, but each time I heard your voice I felt at ease and got the confidence to keep pushing.
Even though I could’ve left a week ago I am so glad you said no because I completed this course. I pushed myself harder than ever, I got over the frustrations, and I DID IT! Now I can do so much more and know for a fact that nothing stands in my way. I am capable of so much and I truly believe it now. I have changed so much and it wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t strongly suggest, as well as the Golden OB team. I have never realized how challenging things out here actually were, it was for sure the biggest challenge of my life. I never imagined the adventure I wanted would be the best experience of my life. Yes I had my huge downfalls, but it was all worth it. I have already shared with you most of this experience and have what you missed in my journal and will already be shared with you before you get this letter. Just another reminder, thank you so very much and I love you with my entire soul. I can’t wait to see you tomorrow!
