We are educators who strive to inspire the next generation of leaders by creating experiences that challenge students to grow, deepen their self-awareness, and bring both their strengths and vulnerabilities into their communities so that everyone can thrive. Guided by our Theory of Change, we facilitate activities and discussions that spark meaningful reflection and leadership development. We do this work in unique, outdoor environments that foster connection—and we proudly partner with schools and educational institutions to weave Outward Bound experiences into existing curriculum. The outcomes are powerful, and the impact lasts a lifetime.
We want all students to have access to these learning opportunities, which further underscores the importance of working with our school partners. This is made possible when schools are healthy and thriving. Right now, they are threatened, and we are called to not only uplift our students, but also the educators who guide them.
In recent years, schools and educators have been challenged beyond what any of us could have imagined: they’ve stewarded their students through a global pandemic, supported their return to classrooms amidst increased mental health needs, and are now bracing for new, compounding obstacles on the horizon.
With funding and personnel cuts to the Department of Education and the recent news of federal funding cuts to public K-12 schools, educators continue to be asked to do more with less. We are concerned for our colleagues in this field.
We believe wholeheartedly in our next generation of leaders – every day, we witness firsthand their resilience, their compassion, and their remarkable abilities to work together – and we deeply appreciate the communities of educators that are helping them find their way in the world. We often reflect that the student experience is at the center of what we do, as we should, and it’s important to also recognize that this focus sometimes overshadows the essential role of educators; we know that they are, in fact, the foundation that makes every meaningful student experience possible.
To our partners and our colleagues in education, we’re with you. To our students – to all students – we’re with you. And to the families, mentors, and communities who surround today’s youth, let’s circle up and make sure our students and educators feel acknowledged, valued, and supported.
