The Philadelphia Outward Bound School is deeply embedded in the community, working with young people and adults; students, educators and school administrators; and business, corporate and community leaders.
Since its founding in 1992, the Philadelphia Outward Bound School has focused on creating leadership capacity within the region by providing opportunities to develop a better understanding of each individual’s capabilities and value to their community.
The centerpiece of the Outward Bound educational philosophy is the belief that for young people to succeed they need character growth and skills to assume leadership roles and take positive approaches to life’s challenges.
By engaging students in demanding situations, often in unfamiliar environments, Outward Bound allows students to develop as leaders while also encouraging self-reliance, physical fitness, craftsmanship, service to those in need and the environment and, above all, compassion.
The Philadelphia Outward Bound School is dedicated to inspiring young people to embrace their common humanity, engage in service and become active citizens. Courses balance a focus on personal growth with the life-long value of an ability to master challenges, an appreciation for reflection, action and the importance of teamwork.
