Above the small mining community of Marble, Colo., the Colorado Outward Bound School ran the first Outward Bound course in America in 1962. As with the original Outward Bound School founded in 1941 in Aberdovey, Wales, the Colorado Outward Bound School was created to provide character building experiences for young people by teaching “through the wilderness not for the wilderness.”
Extreme in the truest and best sense, the legendary Colorado Outward Bound School will help you travel higher and farther than you ever thought possible. The journey can take place in the broad expanses of Utah’s red deserts, in the forests of the Gore Range or above treeline in the Rockies.
Prepare yourself for a physically challenging, mentally toughening and emotionally exhilarating experience.Prepare to discover that you are capable of much more than you ever imagined.
These courses, like courses at all Outward Bound schools, are not summer camps or guided tours. Through course elements and intentional processing of the experience, students come away with an enduring understanding of their abilities and values. The transference of the wilderness experience to life at home, at school or on the job becomes essential. The result for students of all ages and all walks of life is a renewed or discovered strength of character, leadership and service.
